About Thoreau BASIC

A free 64-bit BASIC interpreter for x64 Windows and x64 UEFI, keeping the direct, line-numbered feel of classic Microsoft BASIC while adding wavetable sound, modern graphics, multithreading, SSE2 & AVX2 support, networking, debugging, hypercomplex mathematics, mouse input and native x64 JIT execution. It can package applications into standalone EXEs or bootable EFI binaries.

I was really intrigued by Thoreau BASIC's clever blend of old-school line-numbered syntax with advanced capabilities like TCP/IP networking and the ability to run programs directly from UEFI firmware without an operating system.

Thoreau BASIC started as a joke. I wanted a BASIC where I could type something ridiculous like: DIM A%(12000000000) …and have it actually work. Then I kept adding things. The result is Thoreau BASIC, a free x64 BASIC interpreter inspired by GW-BASIC, running both as a normal Windows program and directly on bare-metal UEFI without an operating system. And yes, I am fully aware of the absurdity of combining GOTO 100 with AVX2, multithreading, TCP/IP and quaternion arithmetic. That is increasingly the point.
